KCJ hosts virtual film screening for documentary Coded Bias
In October, we had the honour of hosting a virtual screening of Sundance documentary Coded Bias. The film by Shalini Kantayya explores the fallout of MIT Media Lab researcher Joy Buolamwini’s startling discovery that facial recognition does not see dark-skinned faces accurately, and her journey to push for the first-ever legislation in the U.S. to govern against bias in the algorithms that impact us all.
The screening sparked some incredible discussion within the KCJ team and our larger community.
Missed the chance to watch Coded Bias with us? Don’t worry! You can still start learning about bias in tech through the Algorithm Literacy Project.
